A Single Mother's Amazing Adventure

When Rebecca became a single mother of three, she wondered if it would be possible to return to BYU. In her own words, this is what happened.

“As a single mother of a young family, I knew that going back to school to finish my degree would improve my ability to support my children. At the same time I knew that it would be challenging to be a full-time student while meeting the needs of my children.

“With the help of family, friends, and a scholarship from the College of Life Sciences, my wish became a reality.  As I look back, I realize that I was privileged to have had incredibly knowledgeable and helpful professors who were sincerely concerned for each student. The Dietetics Program prepared me well for a career as a dietician and enhanced my abilities in my roles of mother, teacher, and leader.

“I am truly grateful for this amazing adventure.”

We add our appreciation for those who generously help to provide scholarships by making gifts to the BYU Annual Fund.

And what is Rebecca doing today? Well, she graduated, completed an internship, passed her RD exam, and just started a new job working as an official dietician!

As President Gordon B. Hinckley said, “You never can foretell the consequences of a dollar invested in education.”
