Documenting the impact of chronic illnesses on families

February 20, 2009

Brandon Wheeler

Brandan Wheeler is one of 12 student researchers involved in a research project that explores how older married people cope with multiple chronic illnesses individually and as couples. Wheeler says: “Before participating in this, I was unaware of the volume of data collected for just one study.” Wheeler is a graduate student in marriage, family, and human development, and this project has taught him the importance of well designed research tools.

He is also grateful for the mentoring he has received through his involvement. Jeremy Yorgason, one of the study’s faculty sponsors, says Wheeler and his cohorts have been crucial. “Students have helped plan the study, recruit participants, collect data, and disseminate findings,” says Yorgason.

To those who made this experience a reality, Wheeler says: “This would not be possible without mentors’ and donors’ support. Thank you.”
